Malinovo: Discover the Little Danube and Cultural Heritage

The Little Danube and its branches encircle Malinovo on three sides in a wide arc. Strips of riparian forest run along both banks of the river. In Malinovo, the Little Danube offers ideal conditions for fishing, water tourism, cycling and hiking.

Culture and History

Malinovo Manor House stands on the foundations of a medieval water fortress with three towers and a moat. This fortress protected the crossing over the Little Danube to Žitný ostrov. In the 17th century, Archbishop Szelepcsényi converted the manor house into a chateau. Following a Neoclassical renovation in the 19th century, it acquired its present appearance.

A chapel dating from 1677 is located in the east wing of the manor house. Built in the late medieval Renaissance style, it served as a church until 1953. Surrounding the manor house is an English landscape park covering just under five hectares and containing more than 200 native and foreign tree species.

St. George's Church is also part of the local architectural and religious heritage. It was built between 1869 and 1872 as a Neo-Gothic crypt chapel for the Apponyi family and preserves its original high altar with an 18th-century red-marble statue of Saint George. The Juliana bell hangs in the tower. It weighs 400 kg and was cast by József Pozdech in Wiener Neustadt.

In the cemetery of Malinovo, the restored group of statues of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1739 stands in a glazed chapel. Behind the church, at the edge of the fields, is the restored Mária Chapel. It is the final stop on the nature trail. Next to the small park there is also a late Neoclassical bell tower, built by János Putz in 1862. Its smaller bell is still in working order.

Nature Trail and Wooden Boat

The Náučný poznávací chodník nature trail in Malinovo has eight information boards and can be completed in less than an hour. It is an easy route through the built-up area of the municipality.

At the Žilip site stands the reconstructed Malodunajská loďka wooden boat attraction. It is available to the youngest visitors.

Local Life and Events

The local Csemadok organization in Malinovo is committed to preserving and reviving traditional folk customs. Each year, it organizes around 15–18 of its own cultural and social events. The local events calendar also included the traditional Maypole erection, which was scheduled for 30 April 2026 at 4 p.m. by the small park at Námestie 1. mája in Malinovo.

Transport Connections

Malinovo is served by a regional IDS-BK bus route. It connects the village with Bratislava via Ivanka pri Dunaji and Zálesie.
