Most pri Bratislave between lakes, floodplain forests and cultural monuments

Most pri Bratislave reveals its distinctive features in its bodies of water, remnants of floodplain forests and preserved architectural and commemorative sites. Between Zelená voda, the Zelené jazerá and historic sites, a multifaceted local landscape emerges in which natural and cultural themes are closely intertwined.

Culture and history

The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Kostol Najsvätejšieho Srdca Ježišovho, preserves damaged Gothic frescoes as well as a stone baptismal font from the 14th century, which is still used in the new church. It is also believed that the same church may preserve a presbytery from a 13th-century chapel that was expanded in the Early Gothic style around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. This is complemented by unusually rare stone ciboria. The church is listed under the ÚZPF reference 494/0.

The Church of the Divine Heart of Jesus, Kostol Božského Srdca Ježišovho, has preserved stone baldachins that to this day survive only in Most pri Bratislave in Slovakia. The memory of Milan Rastislav Štefánik is also connected with the village: the memorial was erected in 1923 at the site of the plane crash, and its architect was Dušan Jurkovič. The monument to Milan Rastislav Štefánik in Most pri Bratislave is listed as a national cultural monument under reference 2080/1. In the church garden, the monument to the victims of the First World War names 43 victims.

A smaller historical monument is the Božia muka near the agricultural cooperative, built in the Classical style around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. In the Studené settlement stands a manor house that was probably built in the 17th century by the Hideghétiovci family as a single-storey Renaissance building. According to another account, it was originally a monastery; Ján Balassa had it converted into and extended as a Classical manor house at the beginning of the 19th century. A remnant of a natural park from the first half of the 19th century has also been preserved next to the manor house.

Lakes and river landscape

Zelená voda is a lake created by gravel extraction and surrounded by rare floodplain forests. The lake is used for fishing and hiking and is primarily a fishing area. There is no lifeguard there; swimming is at your own risk.

The three lakes of Zelené jazerá were formed from former gravel extraction areas left behind after the regulation of the Malý Dunaj; together, they cover 17.6 hectares. All three lakes are fishing waters, while two of them are also used for recreation and sports.

Along the Malý Dunaj, remnants of floodplain forests within the municipal area of Most pri Bratislave form secluded natural spots. The Blatina Canal flows into the Malý Dunaj within the municipal area of Most pri Bratislave and is considered a paradise for anglers.

Cycling connections

The 12.1 km road cycling route Vrakuňa–Most pri Bratislave–Malinovo–Tomášov passes through Most pri Bratislave. There is also a cycling connection between Most pri Bratislave and the Studené district.
