Natural Environment

In Klokočov, the Klokočovské skálie Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of Klokočov and is subject to the fifth level of protection. It features a 2- to 20-metre-high and approximately 300-metre-long sandstone wall with spherical weathering. The area includes fir and fir-spruce forests as well as spring areas of the foothill zone on non-calcareous rocks. The Polkova protected area comprises transitional peatlands, oligotrophic fen meadows, extensively managed short-grass pastures and wet purple moor-grass meadows.

The Klokočovské rašeliniská are also included in Slovakia's national list of sites of European importance. There are twelve such areas in Klokočov. As a result, various landscape forms occur side by side: sandstone, forests, spring areas, peatlands and meadows are each described with their own characteristics.

Routes and Activities

The Na Biely Kríž z Klokočova route starts in Klokočov, in the Vrchpredmier district, and covers 3.6 kilometres with an ascent of 299 metres in approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. It runs along the Czech-Slovak border area; in winter, there is a groomed cross-country ski trail there. The route length, elevation gain and approximate duration describe the course in clear terms without limiting the route to a single season.

Another form of transport is represented by the Z Klokočova do Čadce cycling route. It is 18 kilometres long, has an ascent of 300 metres and is suitable for mountain bikes.

Culture

Above the settlement of Pantokovci in Klokočov, there is a small sacred complex dating from 1937. It can be accessed approximately 1 kilometre from the main road. Its location above the settlement and its date are part of the description, as is the distance from the road.

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Klokočov is a Secession building with Neo-Gothic elements, constructed from 1918 to 1928. The interior furnishings of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Klokočov from 1928 include a Baroque crucifix from the 18th century.

The foothill areas of Kysuce have a historic settlement structure shaped by gradual settlement since the 16th century during the Wallachian colonisation. They contain buildings of folk architecture with varying cultural and historical value.
