In Krásno nad Kysucou, exploration begins at the Calvary: its Way of the Cross comprises 14 stations featuring distinctive metal sculptures by sculptor and architect Stanislav Mikovčák. The sculptures are made of wrought iron and incorporate historical metal objects; QR codes explain the symbolic representations, from the judgment of Jesus Christ to his burial.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Andrew was built in 1861 and is considered the largest church in Kysuce by length. Since its restoration in 2009–2010, it has housed a late Gothic wooden sculpture, 113 centimetres high, dating from the late 15th century. It was created by an unknown master and is classified as a cultural monument.

The Vlastivedné Museum in Krásno nad Kysucou presents a natural history exhibition with specimens of the fauna and flora of northwestern Slovakia. The Kysucká Odyssey exhibition presents the history of Kysuce from the earliest mammoth hunters through the era of Juraj Turzo to the age of space travel and includes an interactive audiovisual guide. A systematic geological collection also provides an overview of the world of minerals.

The stone bridge was probably completed around 1835 and is approximately 50 metres long. The bridge was built in 1891 by the Wayss company and bears a statue of St. John of Nepomuk. At the Most lásky a priateľstva, couples in love attach padlocks to the bridge railing and throw the keys into the river.

Along the Bystrica River and the Kysucká Cycling Route towards Oščadnica are concrete bunkers of the Tobruk, Ringstand 58c type. The German army built them at the end of 1944 to defend the road through the Bystrica Valley.

Nature

The Vrabčiarne are tourist shelters in the picturesque landscape of the Kysucké Beskydy and Javorníky mountains. The Krásňanské osady are also accessible to mountain bikers. During a hike through the Krásňanské osady, visitors are accompanied by the local fauna and flora, as well as exceptional peace and seclusion.

The U Jantov settlement comprises wooden and masonry houses, surviving wooden farm buildings, a holy picture, a small altar and a stone cross. From there, a forest path passes beneath Vojtov vrch and leads to hiking trails in the Javorníky mountains. A Way of the Cross approximately 600 metres long leads directly to the U Jantov lookout tower. The first floor of the lookout tower houses a gallery with information about Krásno nad Kysucou.

The Šustkov–Jedličník settlement lies on the cycling route towards Bystrická dolina. A small masonry chapel dating from 1998 stands beside the route. A holy mass is traditionally held in Šustkov–Jedličník in summer.

Routes

The Bystrická Cycling Route begins in the centre of Krásno nad Kysucou. The Kolesá radosti sculpture stands at the intersection of this route with the Kysucká Cycling Route. It is almost five metres high and is made of forge scale, wheels and other materials from a recycling centre. The Kysucká Cycling Route leads towards Dunajov and Oščadnica and as far as Milówka in Poland.

Along the Bystrická Cycling Route there are stopping points where you can take a refreshment break or stop for sightseeing.
