Oscadnica: Hotels amid winter sports, nature and culture

Oščadnica combines winter sports, mountain landscapes, culture and cycling routes within a compact thematic area. Snowparadise Veľká Rača Oščadnica offers skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and ski touring. The ski area comprises the Dedovka, Marguška and Lalíky sections; together, Snowparadise has 14 km of ski slopes. In addition to the winter sports, this places a clearly defined extent of the ski area at the centre of attention.

Nature

Veľká Rača is the highest peak in the Kysuce region and is part of a national nature reserve. One specific hiking route leads from Oščadnica-Dedovka via Veľká Rača. It is 7.2 km long, has an elevation gain of 594 m and is considered moderately difficult. The route thus connects a starting point in Oščadnica-Dedovka with the highest peak in the region, while also stating its length, elevation gain and difficulty level.

The Alpincoaster also starts on the mountain next to the mountain-station building of the cable car in Dedovka. The ride ends at the same place. The Alpincoaster reaches speeds of up to 40 km/h. The starting point, endpoint and maximum speed are therefore clearly defined for this attraction.

Culture

The Kysuce pilgrimage to the Calvary in Oščadnica is part of the local tradition. It has taken place for several decades on the Sunday after the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on 15 August. The date is therefore linked to a specific religious holiday and the following Sunday.

The Kaštieľ in Oščadnica, together with the adjacent forest park, forms a designated cultural and historical ensemble: it was declared a National Cultural Monument of the Slovak Republic in 1973. Another cultural destination is the Kysucká galéria in Oščadnica. It is a regional gallery focusing on modern art and currently manages more than 3,000 works of art.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is also part of the local history; it was first mentioned in 1804. The educational trail “In the Footsteps of Robbers in the Borderlands” offers a different approach to the historical subject. It presents the topic of robbers and bandits through thematic stations and has five information panels in Oščadnica.

Cycling routes

The most important cycling route in Kysuce runs through Čadca, Skalité, Oščadnica, Krásno nad Kysucou, Stará Bystrica and Vychylovka. The route is 60 km long and thus passes through a number of specifically named places in Kysuce. In addition, local cycling route 2429 connects the centre of Oščadnica with the Kaštieľ. Both routes are described by their defined courses and the respective connection they provide.
