Raková can be explored through nature, trails and culture. Specific route details provide an objective form of orientation, while the cultural topics become tangible through their own names and dates. You can consider different aspects separately and arrange them according to your preferred daily rhythm.

Nature

The Veľký Polom Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of Raková. The 1,067 m-high peak of Veľký Polom is protected as a nature reserve at the fifth level of protection on both sides of the border. Medvedia skala is a preserved rock monolith approximately the size of a multi-storey house.

Elevation, level of protection and size comparison provide various objective features for classifying the landscape. You can read these features separately while preparing for your trip and then compare them with the described trails.

Routes

The Cyklotrasa vzájomnosti begins in the centre of Raková and leads around Medvedia skala to the Tetřev viewpoint in the Czech Republic. From Raková-Korcháňovci, a blue-marked hiking trail leads over approximately 5.4 km to Veľký Polom in about two hours. Access to Medvedia skala from Raková-Korcháň is considered easy and well marked.

Different types of activity, starting points, destinations, an approximate distance and a time indication are set side by side for comparing the trails. These differences help you objectively sort out the scope of a day's itinerary.

The two routes require different forms of daily planning: the Cyklotrasa connects the starting point in the centre with a destination in the Czech Republic, while the blue-marked hiking trail specifies a starting point in Raková-Korcháňovci, an approximate route length and a time indication. This places the type of activity and planning framework side by side for separate comparison.

When choosing a hotel for Raková, the travel period, room category and cancellation conditions can structure the comparison. These three details relate to your own travel dates and desired price range. The accommodation decision therefore remains a separate planning step alongside the nature trails, nature reserve and cultural offerings of the town.

Culture

Every year, Raková hosts Palárikova Raková, a competition and showcase of amateur theatre groups. The Kostol Narodenia Panny Márie church in Raková is a Neo-Gothic church. It was built between 1870 and 1874 according to the design of the architect J. Zítko.

The altarpiece depicting the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was created by J. B. Klemens in 1879. The Ján Palárik Memorial Room in Raková is located in the cultural centre building and presents the exhibition “JÁN PALÁRIK – ŽIVOT A DIELO”.

For your own daily planning, the event format, architectural history, artwork and exhibition can be considered as separate cultural topics. Their order can be based on your interests and the time available. Visiting the Ján Palárik Memorial Room in Raková requires making an appointment with the Raková Municipal Office in advance.
