Benice: Hotels, Local History and Liptovská Mara

Benice, a district of Liptovský Mikuláš, lies at the inflow of the Váh into the Liptovská Mara reservoir.

Culture

The Benickovci were the noble owners of Benice. Of the seal impressions from Benice created in the second half of the 19th century, the text “OBEC BENICE” has survived, but not the seal image. The original seal matrix of Benice is held in the collections of the Liptov Museum in Ružomberok. In 1885, an oval seal of Benice was created with the three-line Hungarian inscription “LIPTÓ MEGYE BENICZ KŐZSÉG PECSÉTJE 1885”.

The municipal symbols are also connected with the history of the place. The flag of Benice has six vertical stripes in red, white, red, green, white and yellow, an aspect ratio of 2:3, and a three-pointed end with two cuts extending to one third of the flag’s length. The design of the coat of arms of Benice is based on a variant of the coat of arms of the noble Benickovci family.
