Pavčina Lehota – Hotel for Nature, Hiking and Winter

The Náučný turistický chodník Pavčina Lehota educational hiking trail is suitable for hiking. In winter, a cross-country ski trail is prepared along this route. In addition, the Dlhý okruh around Pavčina Lehota passes an interesting section of the Jelšie protected area.

The Žiarce bobsleigh track is 1,000 m long and was the first track of its kind in Slovakia. Evening skiing is possible at the SKI Žiarce ski resort, which also has a ski school. The Sport & Relax Žiarce ski resort is located in Pavčina Lehota at the entrance to the Demänovská Valley and has two downhill slopes with a combined length of 1,130 m.

Nature

The Jelšie Nature Reserve lies northeast of Pavčina Lehota on the floodplain of the Demänovka and covers 26.10 ha. It preserves an ash-alder forest community. The tree cover consists of coppiced alder interspersed with spruce and ash trees. The protected area lies at approximately 670 to 690 m above sea level.

The Vyhliadková veža lookout tower stands in Pavčina Lehota. It offers views of the surrounding landscape.

Culture and History

South of Pavčina Lehota, on Mount Opálenisko in the Low Tatras, lies Hradisko. It is an Iron Age hillfort with ramparts. Hradisko Zámček is also located near Pavčina Lehota and was declared a cultural monument on 27 October 1967. Its northeastern part forms an acropolis and served as a small fortified settlement in the early Middle Ages, in the 13th century.

Another cultural monument is the wooden bell tower of Pavčina Lehota. It was built in 1883 and is an original log construction with carved sound openings. The bell tower is designated as a cultural monument.
