Huty between Orava and Liptov – Hotels, Mills and Nature

Huty lies at the transition between Orava and Liptov. The village combines a clearly identifiable regional location with traces of its history, protected natural areas, and named routes to the water mills of Oblazy and Sivý vrch. As a result, the village landscape brings together regional context, historical evidence, and specific route connections. Location and Nature

Huty is one of the three villages in the Svorad microregion, located below the Svorad upland. The other two villages in this microregion are Veľké Borové and Malé Borové. The natural setting also includes the Chočské vrchy protected area. It is a protected bird area within Slovakia’s Natura 2000 system. The microregion is therefore defined by its three explicitly named villages, while the protected area adds an independent connection to nature and the landscape. Both the neighboring villages and the area’s designated protection status are therefore relevant to understanding Huty.

Culture and Local History

A large stone cross still stands in the schoolyard of Huty as a remnant of the former wooden church. The history of the local furnaces is also connected with specific names and traces: the first furnace in Huty was called Bútorovka. At Pecisko, the foundations of Huty’s first furnace are still visible. The cross, the furnace name, and the preserved foundations refer to different aspects of the village’s history. While the stone cross is connected with the former wooden church, Bútorovka and Pecisko preserve the memory of the local furnace history through a traditional name and visible structural remains.

Routes to Mills and Mountains

The water mills of Oblazy are among the last preserved monuments of their kind and are set in their original natural surroundings. They form part of the educational trail through the Prosiecka and Kvačianska valleys. The route from Huty to the water mills of Oblazy is 2.1 km long and takes 45 minutes. Sivý vrch can also be reached from both Huty and Bobrovec. The route from Huty to Sivý vrch is particularly attractive because of the Radových skál, also known locally as Skalné mestečko. There is a car park at Horáreň pod Bielou skalou.
