Vavrišovo is located in the eastern part of the Liptov Basin, in the valley of the Belá River. From here, there is a panoramic view of the Low, Western and High Tatras. Vavrišovo is a starting point for trips to the High Tatras. Its location combines a clearly perceptible landscape with a local history that dates back to the Middle Ages and is visible in several buildings, memorial sites and paths.

History and Culture

Vavrišovo was first mentioned as the property of Mikuláš, son of Serefelov, in 1286. Another important chapter took place in August 1709: As part of the estates' uprisings led by Franz II Rákóczi, a battle between insurgent Kuruc forces and imperial troops, the Labancs, took place in the area of Vavrišovo; Vavrišovo was burned down in the process. The Museum of the Battle of Vavrišovo was established in memory of this battle in August 1709.

One of the village's defining buildings is the Evangelical church. It is a Neo-Romanesque building constructed between 1881 and 1884. Its entrance tower dates from 1928. Inside, there is a Neoclassical altar from the second half of the 19th century and a pulpit depicting Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. The Humná barns are also characteristic of Vavrišovo. Their distinctive architecture shapes the view across the entire landscape.

Paths and Nature

An informative cycling route connects several sites in the Liptov landscape: The Vlkolínec–Pribylina route leads along field paths through Liptovský Peter to Vavrišovo and from there onward to Pribylina. It ends at the entrance to the Museum of the Liptov Village. Vavrišovo lies on this connection between Vlkolínec, Liptovský Peter and the open-air museum in Pribylina.

The Živá rieka trail is accessible year-round, including during the winter closure of marked hiking trails. It is an easy walk along the river and is particularly suitable for an outing with children. The natural surroundings also include the Natura 2000 site SKUEV0141, which encompasses, among other areas, the cadastral territory of Vavrišovo. In site SKUEV0141, mountain watercourses and herbaceous vegetation along their banks are recorded as habitat type 3220.
