Culture and History

The manor house of Košťany nad Turcom is a Rococo-Classical country residence dating from the second half of the 18th century. It was created by rebuilding an older structure and is a single-storey building with an L-shaped floor plan and stucco-decorated façades. The country residence is currently being reconstructed.

Another protected historic address is Kúria No. 214. It is a national cultural monument and bears ÚZPF number 566/1.

Rodný dom Jána Páričku was originally built in the first half of the 19th century as an inn belonging to the Juštovský family, located by the roadside. Since September 1997, it has housed a memorial plaque honouring Ján Párička. The house also became a meeting place for Slovak representatives of the national revival movement from Martin and the surrounding area.

Rodný dom Andreja Polonca was built in 1843. The first documentary records of Košťany nad Turcom date from 1323, when the village was mentioned as “villa Coschan”. After the abolition of serfdom in 1848, crafts and trade began to develop in Košťany nad Turcom. In the 18th and 19th centuries, agriculture was the inhabitants’ main means of livelihood.
