Lipovec: Hotels between the Little Fatra and the Váh

Lipovec lies in the Turiec Basin, at the foot of the Little Fatra mountains and on the right bank of the Váh River. As a result, the basin landscape, mountain region and river course meet here. Most of the area consists of deciduous and mixed forests. The area provides suitable living conditions for numerous species of forest plants, fungi and animals.

Nature

The Little Fatra National Park lies directly within the cadastral territory of Lipovec and is subject to the third level of protection. The Hajasová Nature Reserve is also one of the protected areas in the cadastral territory of Lipovec. It protects forest communities in lower elevations in the Hoskora catchment area. The protected areas complement the forest-dominated landscape with clearly defined natural areas.

A prominent point above Lipovec is Panošiná, a 1,021.8-metre-high mountain in the southern Little Fatra. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Lipovec via the monument erected in 1948 to the summit of Panošiná. Memorial and hiking gatherings are held annually on Panošiná. The ascent along the hiking trail to Kľačianska Magura offers views of the entire Little Fatra thanks to the surrounding nature and vistas.

Hiking and Recreation

In the immediate surroundings of Lipovec, the small Široká pond offers opportunities for recreation and easy walks in nature. In the immediate surroundings of Lipovec, Široká pond freezes over in winter and then provides space for ice skating. Thus, alongside the trails in the mountain area, quieter activities by the water are also available around the town.

Cycling and Water

The Turčianska cyklomagistrála runs through Lipovec and is suitable for trekking and mountain bikes. A 14-kilometre route for a trip on the water runs from Lipovec to Strečno. The river trip from Lipovec to Strečno takes about two hours.

Culture and History

In the centre of Lipovec stands the bell tower at the southern edge of the municipal cemetery. The bell tower was built in 1959 as a replacement for an earlier bell tower dating from 1838. It contains a late Baroque bell from 1780. Thus, the same structure brings together an older bell and the history of two bell towers.

The annual ascent commemorates the events of the battles near Strečno during the Slovak National Uprising. The historical connection remains linked to an annual hiking event and takes place alongside the memorial and hiking gatherings on Panošiná.

Sport and Community Life

The Leisure and Sports Centre in Lipovec is open to children, young people, adults and seniors, as well as local organisations and interest groups. Sporting activities are offered in the centre of Lipovec. The centre serves residents and visitors to Lipovec for sporting, recreational and leisure activities. The town centre thus complements the trails, protected areas and excursion routes with a publicly accessible area for different age groups and organised groups.
