Hotels in Sučany – Ways, Culture and Nature
Sučany offers several clearly distinguishable ways to experience the area: activity, culture, and nature. The individual destinations differ in terms of their function and historical period. In addition to trails and landscapes, the character of the town includes historic buildings, a fortified hilltop settlement, and a cultural monument from the 19th century.
Activities
The area’s activity options are particularly clearly represented by the Sučany Historical and Educational Trail. The trail is located in the built-up area of Sučany and can be used year-round. It is linear and suitable for walking and cycling. It is 3 km long, with an elevation gain of 24 m. Sučany also offers opportunities for hiking into the Sučianska dolina. Several cycling routes can likewise be reached from Sučany. This provides different forms of travel alongside one another: a clearly described trail in the built-up area, hiking connections into the Sučianska dolina, and additional cycling routes accessible from Sučany.
Culture
The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the oldest architectural monument in the area of Sučany. It was built in the last quarter of the 13th century and was originally Early Gothic. In 1964, it was declared a national cultural monument. Another historical trace is the pillory of Sučany, preserved as a cultural monument from the first half of the 19th century. Several equipped climbing routes are located on Sučianska Skala. There is also a fortified hilltop settlement that was inhabited by several cultures in prehistoric times. The cultural points of reference therefore range from the medieval church and the monument from the 19th century to a settlement with prehistoric use.
Nature
From its upper areas, Sučianska Skala offers views of the Great Fatra and Lesser Fatra mountain ranges. Lake Ontário is also located in the cadastral area of Sučany. It is used for boating and is also an attractive area for anglers. Another landscape zone is the Sučianska dolina, which lies on the southern side of the Krivánska Malá Fatra. The Pod Rígľom Nature Reserve is located at the entrance to the Sučianska dolina. It covers 14.23 ha and is subject to the fifth level of protection. The Biely potok flows through the Sučianska dolina. Views of the Fatra, Lake Ontário, the valley with its stream, and the nature reserve each represent distinct landscape elements in the area of Sučany.
