Ľubochňa: Hotels, Valley Trails and Forest Railway

The Ľubochnianska Valley is the longest valley in the Veľká Fatra mountain range. The route through the Ľubochnianska Valley leads into Veľká Fatra National Park. Marked trails, an educational trail, historic park grounds and technical monuments reveal the different facets of the village.

Nature and Trails

The Ľubochňa–Dolina educational trail begins at the municipal office. The educational trail in Ľubochňa is a self-guided circular route for hiking and cycling that can be used in summer and winter. It consists of ten stations and an introductory information board. A green-marked cycling route leads from Ľubochňa through the Ľubochnianska Valley, while a yellow-marked hiking trail begins at Ľubochňa railway station and leads over Mount Havran towards Ostré.

A red-marked trail runs from the centre of Ľubochňa past the Korbeľka Nature Reserve to Mount Kopa. From there, there are views of the Váh Valley. A green-marked hiking trail to the Prameň Mária spring also begins at Ľubochňa railway station. Prameň Mária and its surroundings, with a pond, form a resting place in Ľubochňa.

Winter

For the cold season, the 850-metre-long Vyšné Krátke slope in Ľubochňa is listed. With sufficient natural snow, it offers good conditions for family skiing.

History and Culture

The Ľubochnianska Forest Railway was built in 1903–1904 as a narrow-gauge railway for transporting timber from the Ľubochnianska Valley. It was the first electrified railway in Central Europe and occasionally carried tourists and spa guests. The hydroelectric power station was built in 1904 on the site of a former hammer mill. It can be visited by prior arrangement; information panels in its rooms describe the history of the technical monument.

Kollárov dom is a historic spa-style building with distinctive wooden balconies. Rezbárske dni are held regularly in August. The church in Ľubochňa also bears several dates marking its construction and renovation: the foundation stone was consecrated by Prelate Andrej Hlinka in 1937, and the church was blessed on 29 June 1938. In its present form, it was renovated during the tenure of the clergyman Ondrej Poľančík and consecrated on 3 July 1998 by Mons. František Tondra.

Park and Village Character

Kúpeľný Park is a landscape park with Art Nouveau elements. Curving paths lead through it to small architectural features, interesting scenes, a pavilion, resting places and a fountain. Kúpeľný Park also contains an original lime tree avenue dating from the late 19th century.
