Arnutovce: Hotels and the Church of Saint Helen

Arnutovce can be explored through concrete evidence from architectural history, local history, thermal water, and cycling routes. Those who want to get to know the place by focusing on verifiable details will find various points of interest here: from a late Gothic church with art-historical furnishings to a section of cycling route featuring an ascent, changing road surfaces, and panoramic views.

Culture

A first point of interest is the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Helen in Arnutovce. It was originally late Gothic and was built at the beginning of the 15th century. Since October 15, 1963, the church has been registered as a national cultural monument. Its furnishings include a Gothic winged altar of the Virgin Mary, dating from around 1485 and attributed to Master Martin of Levoča. The church also has a Rococo altar of Saint Sebastian, dating from around 1770 to 1780. The tower also has its own architectural history: it was added in the second half of the 16th century and rebuilt and enlarged in the 18th century.

History

The local history of Arnutovce also includes a change in ownership. In 1366, Arnutovce were transferred to the Carthusians of Skala Útočišťa. After the Reformation and the dissolution of the monastery in 1543, Arnutovce became royal property again.

Another historical trace can be found in the Arnutovce cemetery: Grave No. 47 is the burial place of Štefan Hadri and his daughter Helena. Ľudovít Hadri – Ľuboslav was a teacher, organist, poet, and writer.

Local Character

The thermal spring of Arnutovce is also part of the character of the place. It is currently not used for heat generation; the water flows freely into a receiving watercourse. A chemical analysis dated September 11, 1990, described the thermal water of Arnutovce as slightly mineralized, sulfur-bearing, and lukewarm, as well as suitable for a recreational swimming pool.

For cyclists, the cycling route section to Arnutovce is characterized by a moderate ascent, a dirt road with changing surface quality, and a mountain ridge with panoramic views. The route description thus combines different terrain and landscape elements without presenting them as a uniform road surface.

Events

On June 22, 2024, the program of the (H)Arnutovský kotlík included a dance performance and a theatrical performance. The (H)Arnutovský kotlík event was announced in Arnutovce for June 27, 2026.
