Spisska Nova Ves: Hotels, Heritage Protection and Cycling Trails
Spišská Nová Ves has been designated an urban heritage protection zone since 1992. Historic buildings, regional art, and routes through forests and protected areas stand side by side here, without reducing the destination to a single reason to visit.
Culture and History
The architecture of the Roman Catholic Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, dating from the 14th century, has remained partly in its original condition to this day, even though the church has been repaired and rebuilt several times. Its tower is 87 metres high and offers views of the city, the surrounding area, and the panorama of the High Tatras. Guided climbs of the tower of the Roman Catholic Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary are offered year-round by the Tourist Information Centre.
The building of the Múzeum Spiša is also one of the city's most valuable historic structures. Its foundations probably date back to the 15th century. The Galéria umelcov Spiša focuses on the region: it mainly presents works by artists connected with the region. The gallery also organises creative workshops for schools and themed workshops related to current exhibitions.
Routes and Forest Landscape
The Banský náučný chodník in Novoveská Huta can be explored on foot, by bicycle, or on skis in winter. It presents the mining and metallurgy history of the Spiš region and offers shorter and longer walks through an attractive forest landscape. In this way, the same route combines different means of travel with a clear regional-historical theme.
The DIANA forestry educational trail in Novoveská Huta is managed by Lesy mesta Spišská Nová Ves. It is approximately 2,200 metres long and runs along existing forest roads and paths.
Cycling Routes
The Novoveské Singletraily are also available for cycling. They comprise two one-way trails: a children's trail of approximately 300 metres and the approximately 1.5-kilometre-long Novoveský Trail.
The Východným okrajom Slovenského raja cycling loop begins and ends at the railway station in Spišská Nová Ves. Its route passes through the protected zone of Slovenský raj National Park.
Getting There
Spišská Nová Ves can be reached by train and bus. Airports in the more distant cities of Poprad and Košice can also be used for the journey.
Before Booking
Also pay attention to which services are included, which components make up the total amount, and which booking or cancellation conditions apply. When planning with a focus on costs, it is worth considering occupancy, included services, and the total amount separately. Open and compare the offers according to these points before booking. Also check the exact location, the type of accommodation offered, and the conditions specified for the desired occupancy. This keeps the individual costs and applicable rules comparable even when the offers are structured differently. The specific fields of each offer are decisive here, not a general expectation of the accommodation.
