Bánov: Culture, History and Nature
Bánov reveals its distinctive features through a range of architectural and natural settings. Sacred architecture, traditional everyday culture, a historic manor house and a recreational area offer different ways of discovering the town.
Culture and History
The Church of St. Michael the Archangel, “Kostol sv. Michala archanjela”, was built in 1842 in the Neoclassical style. In 1928, it was extended with two side aisles with choirs, which were also designed in a similar Neoclassical style. Above the main altar is a painting of Saint Michael the Archangel, created in 1860 by the Budapest painter Jozef Berky. The church thus connects its architectural history with a specifically dated work of art and the name of its creator.
A residential house that is considered one of the oldest houses in the town was selected for the “Dom ľudových tradícií” in Bánov. The house displays historical furniture, folk clothing, tools, paintings, as well as sacred and secular objects. The collection therefore brings together various aspects of earlier everyday life and local traditions without being limited to a single group of objects. Guided tours of the exhibition, including expert explanations and a presentation, can be arranged in advance.
Another historic point of reference is the “Kaštieľ” manor house in Bánov. It is an example of a distinctive form of Eclecticism featuring predominantly Neo-Baroque and Neo-Renaissance architectural and artistic elements. The manor house was built in the second half of the 19th century. It stands on the eastern edge of Bánov, with remnants of the original park surrounding the building. The history of the town is therefore reflected here in the period of construction, the design and the surviving park structure.
Nature and Recreation
The Sihoť recreational area complements the cultural sites with a natural focal point. Three information boards at the entrance provide information about the local fauna and flora. The recreational zone offers beautiful views and is surrounded by varied natural scenery and bodies of water. The Sihoť recreational area is a suitable place for relaxation and leisure in every season. The information at the entrance, the views and the combination of nature and bodies of water are among the explicitly mentioned features of this area.
