Žitavský luh covers the cadastral area of Veľká Maňa and is a significant remnant of the original meandering river course. Each year, spotted crakes and western marsh harriers breed there. During bird migration, the area serves primarily as an important resting and habitat area for garganeys.

Nature

The Maniansky park, a protected historic park with the fourth level of protection, is located in the cadastral area of Veľká Maňa.

Trails and Activities

The Žitavský luh educational trail is 3.6 kilometres long, takes approximately 1–1.5 hours, and has three stations. It can be accessed from Road No. 511 via the embankment and the Kmeťovo Bridge, as well as via the embankment from Žitavce. The designated means of transport are exclusively walking or cycling; free movement is not permitted in the remaining parts of the protected area.

For cyclists, there is also cycle route 5104, classified as REKREA, from Veľká Maňa to Trávnica. It is 7.8 kilometres long and offers views of the Žitava Valley. Cycle route 8105, “Žitavský luh”, leads from Maňa to the Žitavský luh nature reserve; it is easy and 5.1 kilometres long, and is also suitable for beginners.

Culture and History

The Church of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary in Veľká Maňa is a late Baroque building dating from 1756. It was remodelled in the Classicist style in the first half of the 19th century. Inside is an Early Renaissance Madonna image from the 16th century. Beneath the church is a crypt containing the grave of Baron Ján Malonyay and the grave of a son of Gejza Foldvári, the last owner of the Veľká Maňa estate.

Also in Veľká Maňa stands a late Baroque manor house dating from 1741–1742, built by František Xaver Koller. The manor house is not open to the public because it houses a social services facility.

Traditional events include the Požitavské Folklore Festival. It is a non-competitive presentation of children’s and adult folklore groups and ensembles, with more than 250 participants each year.

Getting There

Road II/511 runs through the Veľká Maňa district. The municipality of Maňa also has bus and train connections.

Accommodation

When comparing hotel offers in Mana, travellers can carefully review the respective offer pages. Relevant details there include the exact location, the type of accommodation, and the stated occupancy. It is also possible to check which services are included, whether additional costs are listed, and which price components make up the total amount. Before booking, the applicable booking and cancellation conditions should also be clearly understandable on the same offer page. The review applies exclusively to the individual offer; its terms should therefore be considered separately from general information about the destination. This keeps the price, scope of services, and contractual conditions clearly distinguishable from one another.
