Travnica, known as Trávnica in Slovak, presents its history at several distinct sites. Names, architectural styles and former uses reveal the different chapters of the village’s past.

Culture

In the western part of Trávnica, in the Nové Zámky District, stands the Veterná studňa. The structure is a national cultural monument and was built around 1920. Its original purpose was closely connected with the local water supply: the Veterná studňa pumped water into a gravity-fed water supply system connected to a manor house, a distillery and a stable. This means that the site represents not only a single technical installation, but also a water supply system serving several connected buildings.

In autumn 2017, the Veterná studňa was extensively restored and returned to working order. It is a unique testament to historical water-management technology in Slovakia. As part of the regional educational trail, it is intended to be presented to the general public.

On the western side of Trávnica, in the direction of Maňa, stands Kaštieľ Ladislava Barlanghiho. Ladislav Barlanghyi had it built in 1862. Exotic trees grow in the park west of this manor house, including a London plane, a maidenhair tree and a tulip tree. In the centre of Trávnica there is also Kaštieľ Rudnyianszkych, a late-Baroque manor house.

Another manor house is Kaštieľ Balogovcov, next to the church. It is Neoclassical and was rebuilt several times; in 1928, Rudolf Tarisch had the building extensively renovated. The Roman Catholic Baroque Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Trávnica dates from 1741. The manor houses, church and water facility therefore each represent different aspects of the village’s history, without equating their construction dates or functions.

The precise names of the buildings and tree species preserve the different historical layers of the village: technical infrastructure, manor houses, sacred architecture and park design can be distinguished from one another. The locations—the western part, the western side, the centre and the area next to the church—also remain tied to their specific buildings.

Nature

The educational trail “History and Present of the Municipality of Trávnica” begins in the centre of Trávnica, in front of the Trávnica Primary School building.

Getting There

Regular bus services connect Trávnica with Podhájska and with the towns of Vráble, Šurany and Nové Zámky.

The nearest railway station is in Podhájska. There, passengers can connect to the Bratislava–Nové Zámky–Levice–Zvolen railway line. For travel by train, Podhájska is therefore the named railway station, while the rest of the route runs through several towns and places.

Surroundings

The nearby Podhájska Thermal Spa is the most important tourist attraction for visitors to Trávnica.

When travelling to Trávnica, hotels and holiday homes can be considered different types of accommodation. The Veterná studňa, the manor houses, the church and the Podhájska Thermal Spa represent different focal points of the destination, without making assumptions about the characteristics of individual accommodations. Visitors can compare offers by accommodation type and price.

Other places: Jatov, Nána, Kamenín, Veľké Lovce, Tvrdošovce, Strekov, Sikenička, Úľany Nad Žitavou.

For the higher-level travel overview: Nové Zámky.
