Kamenín: Nature, Culture and Water in One Place

Kamenín can be viewed through clearly distinguishable perspectives of nature, local history and water. The place becomes particularly tangible where protected landscape, visible sites of remembrance and a designated starting point for a paddling tour come together. There are also destinations in the surrounding area and the wider regional surroundings that represent different landscape and cultural connections.

Nature

Kamenínske slanisko was declared a state nature reserve in 1953. The protected area lies in the cadastral territories of Kamenín and Kamenný Most and covers 150.76 hectares. Within the area, there are extensive stands of Limonium gmeiinii. The name Kamenín is therefore associated not only with a place name, but also with a clearly defined natural area whose protection status, spatial allocation and plant population are each specified in concrete terms.

Culture

An important site of remembrance is located on the left bank of the Hron: the monument to the battles of the Second World War stands there in Kamenín. The site is designed as a spacious complex with a real tank. At the same time, the monument is regarded as a typical work from the era of real socialism. This site of remembrance encompasses its location, design, the tank as a feature and its historical classification.

A different historical character is shown by the Church of “Kostol Nanebovstúpenia Pána” in Kamenín. It is a Baroque church from the mid-18th century and contains a Rococo pulpit from the second half of the 18th century. The church stands in the centre of Kamenín on a hill amid the church garden. The architecture, interior furnishings and position in the centre of the village thus form three distinct features of this building.

Water

The connection with water is also tied to a specific place. The beach where the paddling tour begins is located under the bridge in Kamenín. In addition, K2 Camping Kamenín offers boats, paddleboards and bicycles for hire. Thus, alongside the expressly named starting point of the paddling tour, there are three different rental options: boats, paddleboards and bicycles.

Surroundings

Several named cultural and landscape destinations lie in the wider regional surroundings of Kamenín. Csúzy-kastély is a castle, as is Füri Zichy-kastély. Nagy Koppány and Tolmács-hegy are mountains. The cultural selection also includes Kismarosi Sváb Muzeális Gyűjtemény, a museum, and Kürti katolikus templom, a church. The names and classifications remain distinct in each case and refer to different types of destinations in the wider regional surroundings.

Separate from these, two mountains in the surroundings of Kamenín are named: Sákola-tető and Kis-Koppány. Both belong to the geographical surroundings of the place, while the castles, mountains, museum and church mentioned earlier are expressly assigned to the wider regional surroundings. This distinction keeps the different geographical references of the destinations visible.
