Culture

The Church of Saint Stephen was rebuilt between 1707 and 1725, acquiring its present single-nave form with a side altar. Its interior is decorated with frescoes by the master Jakobey from 1881. Thus, a single building brings together the character of the early 18th century and significantly later furnishings.

Archaeological finds in Tvrdošovce provide evidence of settlement since the Early Bronze Age. At the same time, there are traces of human life from the Older and Younger Roman Imperial periods. At the beginning of the 21st century, a municipal museum was established in Tvrdošovce. The municipal museum on Dolná Street is dedicated to the history and traditions of Tvrdošovce.

History

The Rákóczi monument stands by the new cemetery. It was completely redesigned in 2005 and has since been decorated with four carved reliefs. From this place, Count M. Bercsényi sent three important letters to F. Rákóczi II on 30 October 1704. A bloody battle between the Kuruc forces and the imperial army took place on the so-called Rákóczi Hill.

Another reminder of the past is the memorial column that the municipality erected in 2002 for three victims from Tvrdošovce of the Revolution and the War of Independence of 1848/49.

Events

The Dni Svätého Štefana celebrations took place for the 27th time in 2026, from 20 to 24 August. As part of these celebrations, a cooking competition was held on 22 August 2026 in the park on Horna Street in Tvrdošovce. The date and location are just as much a part of the festival as the name under which the event takes place.
