Hotels in Tešedíkovo: Calvary complex, local history and protected lakes

15 March has a fixed place in Tešedíkovo’s annual calendar: regional commemorative celebrations are held every year on this day to mark the beginning of the 1848–1849 revolution and struggle for independence in Hungary. The religious buildings and historical memorial sites also provide specific points of reference for engaging with the town’s past.

Culture and history

The Golgotha–Calvary stands at the end of the Stations of the Cross in front of the chapel. The Calvary complex in Tešedíkovo was built between 1869 and 1876. Another prominent memorial site is the monument to the Battle of Tešedíkovo. It takes the form of an obelisk and was erected in 1869 by the Home Guard Association of Pressburg County in memory of fallen Home Guard members. The monument stands next to the cemetery.

The monument to the victims of the First World War stands in a well-maintained area on the main square of Tešedíkovo. Another historical reference point is the former Jewish cemetery of Tešedíkovo: some of its 19th- and 20th-century gravestones have been placed in a park at the site of the former cemetery. The dating thus remains visibly connected with the former cemetery and its former location.

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built between 1816 and 1820 and consecrated in 1820. It is a single-nave building with a polygonal presbytery termination, an adjoining sacristy and an integrated tower. Its furnishings include an organ dating from 1824, made by Matej Vonberger. Nový rad Street is also home to a belfry, a tall iron structure made of railway rails; it carries a bell at its top.

Nature

The lakes also form part of Tešedíkovo’s specific geographical setting. Čierne Lake is one of two state-protected lakes in the cadastral area of Tešedíkovo. Téglások Lake lies on the northern edge of the cadastral area. Carp fishing with a float, boilies or a feeder is possible there; Téglások Lake is also considered a place for pleasant walks.

Téglások therefore combines different forms of use: carp fishing is associated with three explicitly named methods, while walking is described as a pleasant activity by the lake. Both statements refer to Téglások Lake and not generally to all bodies of water in the cadastral area.

Public bus services include the Šaľa–Neded–Kolárovo and Šaľa–Trstice routes. The Šaľa–Neded railway line also runs through the cadastral area of Tešedíkovo; there is a railway station there.
