Koniarovce in the Nitra Valley: Kúria, Garden and Cultural Monuments

Koniarovce lies in the Nitra Valley on the river’s floodplain. The Kúria and the historic garden in Koniarovce were declared cultural monuments in 1993.

Culture

The Kúria is a Baroque manor house from the 18th century that was rebuilt in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is a single-storey, two-winged building with an L-shaped floor plan.

The historic ornamental garden next to the Kúria was designed with a new path layout, boxwood parterres that have survived to this day, and botanically rare woody plants. The chapel next to the Kúria was converted into a filagoria.

The restoration of the Kúria and the historic ornamental garden was associated with the presentation of the Fénix Award “Cultural Monument of the Year 2017”; the award was presented on 29 November 2018.

The brick bell tower in Koniarovce was restored in 1992 together with its original bell from 1807. A rectangular 19th-century chapel with a folk-style stone Pietà sculpture stands in the local cemetery.

Koniarovce has a stone cross from 1893 bearing a dedication inscription by Štefan Matronka and Mária Hacko. There is also the new Church of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary and an altar.

The Koniarovčanka singing group was founded in 2001 and performs at anniversaries and carnival celebrations. A folk festival is held in Koniarovce on the occasion of the “Three Deceased Kings”.

For travel planning, you can compare architectural, religious and festival-related interests separately.
