The Natura 2000 site of European importance SKUEV0868 Včelár is located in the cadastral area of Obyce. The Včelár National Nature Reserve was designated in 1983 and is subject to the fifth level of protection. The Včelár protected area is characterised by thermophilous oak forests and xerothermic vegetation on andesite and includes land in the cadastral areas of Obyce and Jedľové Kostoľany.

Culture and Local History

The Michaeli–Viktória lignite mine is located in the cadastral areas of Obyce and Jedľové Kostoľany. After the Handlová lignite mines, it was the second lignite mine in Slovakia. The Church of Christ the King was also built in Obyce in 1942. At the entrance to the church are elaborately crafted statues of Saint John the Evangelist and Saint John the Apostle dating from the 18th century.

The Žliabok area in Obyce has a completed amphitheatre with associated infrastructure. Cultural and social events are held in the area every year. A spring called Žliabok is also located there. The Drieňová studnička area includes a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes with a grotto, as well as commemorative plaques dedicated to the spring and the statue of the Virgin Mary. The discovery and use of Drieňová studnička date back to 1884. Local tradition connects the spring with the fact that, during T. G. Masaryk’s summer stays in Topoľčianky, water was carried from there to Topoľčianky.

The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary stands in the northeastern part of Obyce. It was originally a Classicist chapel dating from around the 19th century and was rebuilt in 1913. The chapel contains a wooden Pietà associated with a reference dating from 1968.
