Regetovka: Ski Resort, Peat Bog and Horse-Riding Activities

At the Regetovka ski resort, two ski lifts operate on Dolný svah with a combined capacity of 2,000 people per hour.

Nature

The Regetovské rašelinisko nature reserve was established in 1979 to protect preserved and unusual peat bog communities in eastern Slovakia. Regetovské rašelinisko lies in a depression surrounded by agricultural land and hillside meadows; locally, it is called “Stav”. The marsh calla (Calla palustris) occurs in the area at the only known site of its kind in eastern Slovakia.

Paths and Educational Trail

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from the centre of Regetovka to Regetovské rašelinisko; the route is approximately 0.6 km long. In addition, the Regetovské rašelinisko educational trail is 3.5 km long and has 13 stations. They cover topics such as wetland flora and fauna, the water cycle, peatland biodiversity, and meadow and forest ecosystems.

Winter and Activities

The Regetovka ski resort has 5 km of cross-country ski trails. Ranč Regetovka offers another way to explore the landscape: guided horse rides, riding training and outdoor rides of varying difficulty for children and adults are available there. The guided rides at Ranč Regetovka are intended for experienced riders and follow meadows and forest paths in the surrounding area. The Makovická cycling route, with a length of 52.5 km, is listed for cyclists.

Culture

The local architecture includes the church of “Chrám sv. Demetra veľkomučeníka” in Regetovka. It was built in 1893 in a mixed Historicist style with predominant elements of Ukrainian Baroque and eastern Slovak Classicism. The church’s interior furnishings date from the time of its construction.
