Granč-Petrovce: St. Martin, Manor House and Travertine

Two churches in Granč-Petrovce bear the name St. Martin and represent different phases of construction. The new church was completed in 1994 after a construction period of 16 months. Its 25-metre-high tower is a landmark of the church and the municipality of Granč-Petrovce. Inside, there is a dominant wooden relief of St. Martin. The Renaissance Church of St. Martin was built as early as 1626. Its Renaissance side altar dedicated to St. Martin dates from 1635. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. Individual furnishings such as altars and reliefs distinguish the two interiors. The construction years mark two chronologically separate church phases: the Renaissance church was built in 1626, while the new church was completed in 1994 after 16 months of construction; the side altar dates from 1635.

The Petróczyovský Manor House stands in the southwest of Granč-Petrovce. Originally, it was a late Baroque building from the second half of the 18th century. Štefan Petróczy was born in the manor house in 1876. He is considered an important pioneer of helicopter construction and worked in Austria. The building currently houses an art primary school. For an art primary school, current opening hours should be checked before a planned visit.

The faithful of Granč-Petrovce celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary every year with an indulgence celebration. Annual festivals are planned according to their dates; the current event dates for the indulgence celebration should be checked before travelling.

The Sobotisko natural monument, a travertine hill, lies west of and above Granč-Petrovce. The protected area to the west was designated in 1987 to protect a partly forested and geomorphologically distinctive travertine hill. The protected hill is also an important archaeological site. Finds include stone industry and traces of fire pits from the Middle Palaeolithic. The natural monument comprises both the partly forested form of the travertine hill and the archaeological finds, including stone industry and traces of fire pits from the Middle Palaeolithic.

The Sivá Brada–Dreveník nature trail in the surrounding area focuses on natural history, nature conservation, culture and history. It is suitable for hikers seeking a moderate level of difficulty. Before setting out, hikers can adjust the timeframe and personal equipment to the planned route; current trail conditions should be checked. Moderate difficulty and route length are separate planning factors for hiking and cycling days.

The blue-marked cycling route 2710 passes through Granč-Petrovce. It is part of a route measuring 19.4 kilometres in total between Dúbrava and Vyšný Slavkov. The route length can be taken into account when preparing the schedule, planning breaks and organising the day. For a cycling trip, it is advisable to check the current route conditions before departure. The blue marking identifies cycling route 2710, while the Sivá Brada–Dreveník nature trail is designated as a hiking trail with a moderate level of difficulty.

Granč-Petrovce can be reached via a turn-off from the E18 main road before the Branisko Tunnel.
