Korytné at the Foot of Branisko: Church, History and Accommodation
Korytné lies at the foot of Branisko Mountain and along an old transport route. Here, sacred art, architectural history, craftsmanship and the memory of historical events can be traced through specific places.
Culture
Korytné is home to the Roman Catholic Church of St. Matthew, a Neoclassical church dating from 1816. Inside this sacred building is a late Baroque folk wood carving of the Crucified Christ from the late 18th century. The chapel in Korytné dates from 1817 and is therefore one year younger than the Church of St. Matthew, which dates from 1816. Thus, the two sacred buildings have consecutive construction years, while the wood carving belongs to an even earlier period.
History
Next to the Church of St. Matthew are the family crypt of the Jencsa family and the ruins of a manor house from the early 19th century. The manor house remained fully functional until 1956 and was inhabited by Gizela Jencsa until then. Today, only ruins remain at its site.
A stone smithy in Korytné dates from 1943 and was declared a National Cultural Monument in 1963. Among other things, it was used to maintain horse-drawn wagons before they travelled over Branisko Pass. A monument to the soldiers who fought at Branisko on 5 February 1848 commemorates an event from the 19th century; it was later moved to the cemetery in Korytné.
Cycling
Cycling route 2710, “Kolínovce – Dúbrava – Vyšný Slavkov”, passes through Korytné. It is a 34.5-kilometre MTB route of medium difficulty, with asphalt and paved roads. For planning your own route, its length, difficulty level and road surfaces are therefore clearly specified as key details.
When comparing hotels in Korytné, check the respective offer page to see what type of accommodation is listed, how many people it is intended for and which services are included. Also check how the price is composed, the exact location given and the conditions that apply to booking or cancellation. Compare the offers based on these fields before making your decision. For budget-conscious planning, it helps to consider price components, services and conditions separately. You should also compare the occupancy with your actual requirements. When there are several offers, the differences can be assessed more clearly by going through the same checkpoints in the same order. Pay attention to whether the total price or individual components are shown and whether the stated occupancy corresponds to the planned travel group. This keeps the essential information comparable across offers without making additional assumptions about the respective accommodation.
