Udiča: Discover Hotels, Nature and History

Udiča forms the gateway to the Marikovská Valley. At the southern edge of the municipality, Udiča borders the Nosice Reservoir.

Nature

The Klapy Nature Reserve is a distinctive rocky ridge landscape with thermophilous vegetation and the 653-metre-high Klapov summit. Within the cadastral territory of Udiča, it covers approximately 6.2 hectares and is subject to the fifth degree of protection. On the southeastern side of the rock is a small crevice cave called “Cigánka”. The “Náučný chodník Klapy” educational trail focuses on historical, archaeological and natural-history topics.

Cycling

The “2307 – Udiča – Podvažie” cycle route is 45 kilometres long and challenging; its sections run on asphalt and paved paths. It starts in Udiča at an intersection with the Vážska cyklomagistrála. The green “5312 – Jasenica – Udiča” cycle route starts in the centre of Udiča. It is an easy recreational mountain-bike route for all age groups.

Culture and History

The present-day Church of St. Matthew in Udiča was built in 1783 after the previous church had fallen into disrepair. It was solemnly consecrated on 22 June 1788 and dedicated to St. Matthew. In the Central List of the Monument Fund of the Slovak Republic, the church is registered under number 779/0.

Historically, Veľká Udiča belonged to the parish of Udiča as a filial parish. Fragments from the Migration Period were found on Klape Mountain in the area of the former Veľká Udiča. A sandstone mould for casting bronze spirals was also found there. A glove crafted on a wooden form and woven in Veľká Udiča is documented in the Slovak Encyclopedia of Traditional Folk Culture.
