Šalgočka: Hotel, Nature and Cultural Heritage

Šalgočka lies on the western edge of the Nitrianska pahorkatina upland, in the flat valley of the Jác stream. The 58-kilometre “Okruh Podunajskou pahorkatinou” cycling circuit passes through the village. Landscape, natural features and historic buildings stand side by side here with concrete links to the locality. The combination of the valley, loess hill landscape and the cycling circuit passing through Šalgočka describes the village both geographically and through a clearly named route.

Nature

The municipal area of Šalgočka is a deforested loess hill landscape. The protected landscape feature “Šalgočiansky park” covers 3 hectares. The landscape structure also includes rBK 13 Jarčie: Šalgočka’s land-use plan designates it as a regional biocorridor formed by a watercourse with riparian vegetation. Thus, alongside the protected park, a watercourse and its associated riparian vegetation are also established as named components of the natural environment.

Culture

The local church in Šalgočka is dedicated to Saint Barbara. Another important sacred designation is borne by the church “Kostol sv. Terézie Veľkej”. It is a Baroque sacred building that was constructed as a chapel in the 17th century and expanded into a church around 1740 by adding a nave. The Davidovci family also built a church in Šalgočka. The sacred buildings are thus distinguished by different dedications, construction periods and historical connections.

The kúria in Šalgočka is part of the historic building stock. It was originally built in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century and remodelled in the Neoclassical style in the first half of the 19th century. The kúria is registered in the Central Register of the Slovak Monuments Fund under number 2259/1. Part of the extensive park that surrounded the kúria in Šalgočka has survived to this day. Its architectural history therefore comprises a Baroque construction phase and a later Neoclassical remodelling.

The kúria park is privately owned, is a national cultural monument of historical value and requires a special protection regime. It is not a public green space. Use of the kúria park for organised, regulated cultural and social activities has been proposed.

Local life

Winegrowing was one of the historic activities of Šalgočka’s inhabitants. A specific culinary connection is provided by the event “Varí, pečie celá rodina, varí pečie celá dedina 2026”: it includes a traditional competition in cooking kettle goulash and the tasting of traditional village cakes. The historic winegrowing and the event mentioned represent two distinct connections to the local food and drink culture.
