Zemianske Sady: Bell Tower, History and Wine
The bell tower with a cross is considered an outstanding cultural monument of Zemianske Sady. It stands on the main road near the municipal office of Zemianske Sady.
Culture and History
The cultural history of the village is reflected in several different sites. The Zemianska kúria was built by the Thúry family in the 18th century and served as the seat of the landed estate. The Jewish cemetery in Zemianske Sady contains approximately 70 relatively well-preserved gravestones. The religious architecture also includes the branch church in Zemianske Sady, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary (2000).
A restored cross behind the locality of Žľabina in the direction of Šintavský háj is intended as a place for quiet moments of prayer and remembrance during walks.
Archaeological Traces
The history of Zemianske Sady also includes the evidence found at the Bezenica site. A settlement from the Early Iron Age has been documented there. The settlement structures from the Early Iron Age that were examined belong to the so-called pit houses. In addition, extensive settlement from the Late Bronze Age has been documented in Zemianske Sady, continuing at this site for several centuries. Thus, different chronological layers of settlement exist side by side at Bezenica and within the municipality, without equating their respective historical periods with one another.
Landscape and Geographical Context
Zemianske Sady lies in the Nitrianska pahorkatina and Zalužianska pahorkatina uplands. These are assigned to the Podunajska nížina lowland and the subregions of the Podunajska pahorkatina uplands. The area belongs to the Váh River drainage basin: the territory of the municipality of Zemianske Sady lies within it, while the Jarčie watercourse passes through it and continues onward with a decreasing flow.
Wine Tradition
The wines produced in Zemianske Sady were once exported and were also popular in Prague. Wine tasting is one of the events in Zemianske Sady that has become a tradition. In this context, the focus is therefore both on the historical reach of the wines produced and on the traditional format of wine tasting as an event.
