Trstice: Water Landscape, Culture and Hotels

Trstice is located in the central part of the Danubian Lowland. The Little Danube flows along the western side of Trstice, while the Čierna Voda runs along its northern and eastern sides. The landscape also includes the Čierna Voda wetland, a wetland of national importance connected with Trstice and Dolný Chotár.

Nature

The Little Danube also plays a role in the immediate surroundings of the village: near Trstice, it is used by water tourists for rafting. The spatial relationship between the two waterways and the wetland gives the surrounding area several clearly distinguishable landscape features.

Culture

An important building in the village is the Roman Catholic Church in Trstice. It was built in 1903–1904 and replaced a church dating from 1717. Its organ dates from 1904 and was made by the workshop of the Riegler brothers in Budapest. The church park also contains a chapel of the Virgin Mary, which was inaugurated in May 2003.

Several monuments and statues add to the historical traces in Trstice. The Heroes’ Monument commemorates the heroes of the 1848 uprising as well as the soldiers who fell in the First and Second World Wars. The Holy Trinity Monument dates from 1825 and was reconstructed in 1925. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is considered the oldest statue in Trstice and dates from the mid-18th century.

On the outskirts of Trstice stands a statue of Saint Vendelin, the patron saint of shepherds. It was probably erected in the 19th century and is made of sandstone. The statue of Saint Elizabeth was originally erected in 1924 and is currently located in front of the Health and Social Centre of Trstice. For an evening of cultural entertainment, the Malom Mozi cinema is located in the Cultural Centre at 472 in Trstice.

Events and Regional Culture

In Nádszeg, the manor house known as Bencze House was built in 1929, renovated and opened to the public. The exhibition “Te az enyém, én a tied” recalls wedding customs from the past 200 years. At the event “Hogy ízlik Európa? – Traditional Sweets from Europe”, European sweet dishes as well as strudels prepared by residents of Nádszeg were tasted.

The 12th Szent-István Days were announced for 21–23 August 2026 in Nádszeg, beneath the tree canopy. The date and the announced venue are therefore time-specific details for this regional cultural event.
