Kostolné Kračany – Culture, Church and Cycling Route | Hotels

Kostolné Kračany is located in the Danubian Lowland (Podunajská nížina), in the central part of the Great Rye Island (Žitný ostrov). The Roman Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew (Kostol sv. Bartolomeja) was built in 1819–1820 on the site of an older church already mentioned in the 17th century. In 1820, the present church acquired its current appearance; György Bartal commissioned the new building in the Classical style with Baroque elements. As an immovable national cultural monument, it is registered under ÚZPF number 95/1. For many centuries, Kostolné Kračany was the religious center of Kračansko and remains a place of religious life for the inhabitants of all twelve Kračany settlements to this day.

Culture

Above the church's main altar is a 19th-century painting entitled “Ukrižovanie Pána Ježiša” (“The Crucifixion of Jesus”). A memorial to those who fell in the Second World War stands at the entrance to the church grounds. The church also has the Lurdská jaskyňa, a Lourdes grotto. An apparently preserved, presumably medieval stone baptismal font is located in Kostolné Kračany on the grounds of today's Church of St. Bartholomew, near its entrance, and is dated to the 13th century.

Other cultural heritage includes the family crypt of the Bossányi family in the cemetery area in Amadeho Kračany. Old houses with gabled roofs covered with reeds have been preserved in Kostolné Kračany. A statue of the academic painter Róbert Almási (1948–2018), who came from the municipality, was erected beside the municipal hall in 2022. The Obecné dni festival is celebrated in Kostolné Kračany every June and is intended to strengthen the unity and identity of the Kračančané people.

Nature

The protected area of Konopiská covers the cadastral territory of Amadeho Kračany, part of the municipality of Kostolné Kračany. The fourth level of protection applies to this protected area.

Cycling Route

The Baka–Kostolné Kračany cycling route is 12,600 meters long. The marked route is flat and suitable for all types of bicycles. Near Gabčíkovo, the cycling route connects to the International Danube Cycle Route.
