Koplotovce begins with a precise geographical marker: the village lies on the left-bank river terraces of the Váh, which border the southern slopes of the Považský Inovec.

Landscape and Water

Thermophilous oak forests grow in the northern part of Koplotovce. The village also has a sulphur- and gypsum-bearing thermal spring. The Sedavá fontána spa has been in operation since 1 June 2019 and uses local thermal water with a temperature of 25 °C. Its grounds include a buffet offering refreshments.

A separate water-based attraction is the Štrkovisko Koplotovce fishing area near the municipality of Koplotovce. It comprises four gravel pits with a total water surface area of 2.9 ha. The different local features – thermal water, gravel pits and oak forests – provide various thematic starting points for planning, without the same days having to share the same focus.

Cycling Routes

The Leopoldov–Červeník–Madunice–Koplotovce–Drahovce cycling route project includes a 0.720 km-long section within the cadastral area of Koplotovce. Between Madunice and Koplotovce, the project connects the two cadastral areas with a bridge over the Váh.

A total of 5.7 km of cycling route along the Váh was extended towards Koplotovce in 2010. This provides separate scales for planning your own route: a clearly defined section and a longer stretch along the river.

Nature

Protected orchids, summer pheasant's-eye (Adonis aestivalis) and the priority habitat of European interest *6210/Tr1.1 occur in the cadastral area of Koplotovce. A European bee-eater colony was documented near Koplotovce in a typical sandy erosion escarpment.

After the bee-eaters had departed, 20 occupied nesting tunnels were counted in Koplotovce. Plant species and the documented bird colony thus form two separate nature-related themes.

Culture and History

Koplotovce was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zobor Charter. In 1989, a Neolithic fragment of a stone core was recovered at the Za gedru find site in Koplotovce. A Roman coin minted between 378 and 383 was also found in Koplotovce during gardening work in 1999.

Kaštieľ Kaplath, originally a Renaissance fortress, preserves fortifications on its southern side, a stone portal and two distinctive round bastions. The Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Koplotovce was built in 1734. It has a Rococo high altar from the late 18th century; the high altar contains a painting of the Visitation of Mary by F. Werner.

Masses are held in the filial Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Eduard and Ambruš Kochanovskí, who were friends with the poet Ján Hollý, provide another personal connection to cultural history.

In the Nearby Area

In nearby Hlohovec, the local history museum displays a set of hunting furniture from the Koplotov estate. Its archaeological exhibition presents finds from Hlohovec and the surrounding area dating from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, as well as the Roman and Slavic settlement periods.
