Leopoldov Fortress was originally an anti-Ottoman fortress built in 1669 with a regular hexagonal ground plan. After losing its military importance, it was converted into a prison; it has served this purpose continuously since 1856.

Culture

The Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola was consecrated on 15 October 1712 and is dedicated to this saint. The building is a Baroque single-nave church with a segmentally closed presbytery, a later-added sacristy and an integrated tower with a Romantic-Neo-Romanesque design. In front of the church stands a Rococo Marian column from the mid-18th century.

The first thematic room of the exhibition on the prison service covers the history of imprisonment. It contains exhibits on the history of Leopoldov Prison and the earlier history of the prison system. The public space at Námestie sv. Ignáca in Leopoldov also contains a pillory, also called a pranier. It is a national cultural monument with ÚZPF number 930 and forms part of this public space. The restored pillory is a traditional symbol of the town of Leopoldov.

Getting There

Leopoldov railway station is accessible step-free from the reference point. The station has level access for wheelchair users.

Nature

The natural area includes Štrkovisko Leopoldov, a locally significant wetland in the cadastral area of Leopoldov. It was created after gravel and sand extraction and has the character of a natural standing body of water.

Štrkovisko Leopoldov is intended exclusively for short-term managed recreation and sport fishing. At the same time, it is one of the wetlands recorded in the cadastral area of Leopoldov that are important for the migration and breeding of waterbirds and water-dependent birds and serve as a habitat for rare and endangered plants and other aquatic animals.

When comparing offers, check the exact location, the type of accommodation and the possible occupancy. The included services, stated price components, and the conditions for payment, changes, cancellation or a possible refund are equally important. Always read the total amount and these conditions in the same view so that differences between offers remain clear and verifiable. Pay attention to whether individual services are explicitly included or charged separately. The conditions specifically stated in the respective offer at the time of checking are decisive. When checking offers for Leopoldov, it is worth directly comparing the same occupancy so that the first total price is not the only factor considered. Also check whether the stated amounts apply per night, per stay or to the entire occupancy. If several options are displayed, you should read the conditions in full for each one rather than comparing only individual service features. This keeps price components, the payment date, change rules and possible refunds clearly distinguishable from one another.
