Tekolďany – Culture, Landscape and Hotels

Tekolďany is located in the western part of the loess-covered Nitrianska pahorkatina on the upper course of the Tekoldiansky potok. The history of the settlement reaches far back: settlement began as early as the Neolithic, and Tekolďany was home to a settlement of the Želiezovce culture. Tekolďany was first mentioned in writing in 1310. Historical forms of the name include Tekulchen, Tukulchen, Tökőld, Tekolgyan, Tekolgyany and Tekolďany.

Nature

The unforested municipal area of Tekolďany consists of young Tertiary sediments covered by loess. The Tekoldiansky potok and the surrounding hilly landscape shape a picturesque setting suitable for walks. The low level of light pollution also makes the area around Tekolďany a suitable place for observing the night sky. The mountains Holý Vrch and Chrabov are located nearby; the mountains Očkaj and Zlatý Vrch are also in the surrounding area.

Culture

Among Tekolďany’s notable sights is the Roman Catholic Church of Panny Márie Ružencovej. The church was built in 1934 or 1936 and is also inspired by Slovak sacred buildings from the 17th century. It is a single-nave building with a polygonal presbytery and an asymmetrical tower attached to the side façade of the nave. Inside are two former altarpieces by the painter J. Zanussi, who came from Trnava. One of them bears the signature and date 1804. The Neoclassical bell-tower structure Zvonica dates from 1945.

There are also other named destinations in the immediate vicinity and surrounding area of Tekolďany. Kaštieľ Horné Trhovište is located nearby. In the surrounding area are Hlohovský zámok, Kaštieľ Moravany and Pevnosť Leopoldov.

Community Life

The municipality of Tekolďany organizes Mother’s Day, Deň matiek, and MDD, the Slovak Children’s Day. The event program also includes a Gulášový turnaj, a goulash competition. A Mikuláš celebration is held in honor of Saint Nicholas. In March 2025, the municipality presented a newly renovated gymnasium and invited people to train there.

Trails

Tekolďany belongs to the Poniklec microregion. The 10.3 km-long Náučný chodník mikroregiónu Poniklec educational trail is located there. The hiking trail is easy, self-guided and accessible year-round. Thus, in addition to the opportunities for walks along the stream and through the hilly landscape, the microregion also highlights the fixed route length, easy rating, self-guided format and year-round accessibility.
