Prašník: Hiking Trails, Nature and Culture – Find a Hotel

The Prašník–Čerenec–Tlstá hora–Malá Pec–Veľká Pec–Barónov hrob–Prašník educational trail is an 11.0 km circular route with an elevation gain of 396 m. The route includes six stops and the estimated walking time is approximately three to four hours. The educational trail is suitable for hikers and accessible year-round. The best starting point is considered to be the Prašník municipal office, which can be reached by bus.

Hiking

Another route follows the Pustá Ves–Kras–Drieňový vrch–Trianova dolina–Klenová Cave–Klenová Lookout Tower–Quarry below Hrádok–Pustá Ves educational trail. It is the first educational trail in Slovakia dedicated to geodiversity. The Pustá Ves–Klenová educational trail is a 13.7 km circular route. At the Letohrádok stop, you can switch from this educational trail to the other educational trails Prašník–Barónov hrob and Šterusy–Orlie skaly.

Nature

The Čerenec Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral territory of Prašník and covers 1.50 ha. It is known for its abundant occurrence of the large-flowered pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis); the fourth level of nature protection applies in the nature reserve. Veľká Pec is a protected natural formation in the form of a rock overhang and is located in the cadastral territory of the municipalities of Prašník and Šterusy. Malá Pec is a natural monument featuring a rock arch in the cadastral territory of Prašník.

Veľká Pec Cave is one of the caves in the Little Carpathians that are freely accessible to the public. As a cave settlement, Veľká Pec is also a Paleolithic archaeological site with fossil finds, including mammoth and cave bear bones.

Culture and History

The remains of a settlement from the Early Iron Age and a later fortified Bratrík camp from the 15th century can be found on Tlstá hora. The geology and fossils exhibition in Prašník is open to the public during the municipal office’s office hours by prior arrangement with the mayor.

The water mill located near the centre of Prašník was built in the second half of the 19th century and declared a cultural monument in 1984; it is also popularly known as Devátnikov mlyn. The SNP Monument in the Dúbrava district has been protected as a cultural monument since 1963. During the annual SNP celebrations, a ceremonial wreath-laying ceremony takes place there in memory of the soldiers who fell in the Second World War. The former summer house of the Wattenwyl family stood in Pustá Ves; it was burned down by the retreating German troops.

Water

The VN ÄŒerenec water body is a local carp fishing area covering 38 ha. The ÄŒerenec reservoir was created, among other reasons, to provide opportunities for recreation and fishing.
