Culture and History
The Church of the Mother of God in Hrastnik was originally built around 1550. A Roman settlement dating from the 1st to the 4th century has also been documented in Hrastnik.
Rižnarjeva hiša was built in the 18th century for boatmen and ferrymen travelling along the Sava. It was formerly Peklarjeva gostilna.
Mlakarjevo stanovanje was declared a local cultural monument on 31 March 2007. Preserved and furnished contemporary objects and pieces of equipment are kept in two rooms.
Muzej Hrastnik is housed in a former German school building and has a collection entitled “Lutke, lutkarji in Igračenje”. It is also possible to visit outside regular opening hours by prior telephone arrangement.
The former coal mine in Hrastnik was of great importance for the development of the region, as it supported rapid industrialisation and the establishment of several factories.

Water and Activities

In 2026, part of Pot SREČNO between Hrastnik and Trbovlje can be traversed through a mine tunnel.
The themed tourist hiking trail Pot SREČNO connects the municipalities of Laško, Hrastnik, Trbovlje and Zagorje ob Savi.
Kopitnik is a starting point for hikes to Gore and Kal.
Nature
Four special Natura 2000 protected areas are identified in the Hrastnik area.
