Slovenske Konjice: Hotels and Accommodation

When it was founded in 1165, Žiče Charterhouse was the first Carthusian monastery in Central Europe. It offers guided tours with a panoramic trail, a panoramic viewpoint and a lapidarium, followed by an individual visit with an audio guide. The cycling route from Slovenske Konjice to Žiče Charterhouse is 25 kilometres long there and back, takes approximately two hours and has a moderate difficulty level.

Culture and History

The Mestna galerija Slovenske Konjice is divided into five exhibition rooms and displays works connected to the town’s history through artists’ colonies, local artists, town motifs and notable figures. St George’s Parish Church is a late Gothic church with a Baroque Rosary Chapel, where preserved frescoes by Jožef A. Lerchinger from 1749 can be seen. Its bell tower dates from the late 13th century and is one of the oldest and largest in the Slovenian part of Styria.

The ruins of the Old Castle of Konjice are among the oldest castles in Slovenia and among the country’s most significant castle ruins. The Old Castle of Konjice can be reached by bicycle via a gravel road or on foot via the Zmajček forest educational trail. Stari trg has preserved its original design as a town square since it was first mentioned in historical records.

The Riemer City Gallery displays more than seventy paintings by local and foreign artists. Trebnik Manor was first mentioned in historical sources in 1308 and was referred to as a manor house below Konjice Castle in 1362. The renovated park at Trebnik Manor includes a fitness trail, a sports park, a pond with an island and a children’s playground. Trebnik Manor is generally open to the public.

Nature

Within the municipality of Slovenske Konjice, five areas have been included in the European Natura 2000 network. The Petelinjek wetland extends across 37 hectares near the village of Ličnica, includes the four ponds Štatenberšek, Štepihovec, Polšak and Stari gaj, and is protected by the Natura 2000 network.

Hiking trails run beneath and through the forests of Konjiška gora; there are also hunting lodges, parks and forest educational trails. A wide variety of plant and animal species are described in the remote villages. Karst features such as grooves, dolines and springs occur in the Konjiška gora area.

Wine and Golf

The Zlati Grič wine cellar offers wine and sparkling wine tastings as well as guided tours of the wine cellar. The Zlati Grič golf course covers 24 hectares and has nine holes. It is located among the vineyards of Škalce and includes a stream, ponds, forests and shrubs. The Zlati Grič Golf Club in Dobrava offers golf courses and lessons for beginners.

Leisure

During the summer months, Zbelovo outdoor swimming pool offers a large outdoor pool, a smaller paddling pool for children and a beach volleyball court.
