Ribčev Laz: Hotels at Lake Bohinj and Culture

Ribčev Laz combines distinctive cultural sites at Lake Bohinj with routes through the landscape and a connection across the lake. The character of the place is particularly tangible at three different points: the Four Brave Men Monument, the old Church of St. John the Baptist, and the routes of the Juliana Trail. There is also a signposted cycling route, information centres in Bohinj, and a boat connection between Ribčev Laz and Ukanc.

Culture

The Four Brave Men Monument is located in Ribčev Laz. A small park surrounds the monument and creates a distinct, manageable space within the village. It was erected in 1978 to mark the 200th anniversary of the first ascent of Triglav.

Another defining cultural site lies directly on Lake Bohinj: the Church of St. John the Baptist stands on a hill beside the lake. It was built before 1300 and is a protected cultural and historical monument. Its location by the water, elevated position, and great age are clearly distinguishable features of the building.

Nature

The bathing-water area of Lake Bohinj is also precisely defined geographically. It extends from the Church of St. John the Baptist to the eastern end of the lake at the Fužinski zaliv bathing area. The church, the eastern section of the shore, and the bathing area mentioned above therefore serve as fixed reference points for orientation around the lake.

Hiking and Trails

The Juliana Trail runs along the eastern shore of Lake Bohinj to Ribčev Laz. Near Ribčev Laz, the trail passes beneath the foothills of the Bohinj–Tolmin Mountains. The Juliana Trail, which reaches Ribčev Laz, follows well-marked paths, forest roads, and mountain trails. These different types of routes are part of the described course, as are the section along the lakeshore and the passage beneath the mountain foothills.

The Bohinj Cycling Route provides another active connection. It is well signposted.

On the Lake

The two electric boats, Zlatorog and Triglavska roža, operate on Lake Bohinj between Ribčev Laz and Ukanc in both directions. The boarding point for the panoramic boat in Ribčev Laz is near the bridge and the Church of St. John the Baptist. A one-way trip on the panoramic boat between Ribčev Laz and Ukanc takes 30 minutes.
