Senožeče: Hotels between culture, forest and Vremščica

The focal point is the Museum of Freight and Transport, called Muzej tovorništva in prevozništva in Slovenian. It is housed in a restored medieval customs house in Senožeče and presents the development of freight and transport over the centuries. The museum also features an interactive map of historic routes, which provides an illustrative link between the former transport routes.

The customs house of Senožeče was first mentioned in 1217 and is designated as a cultural monument of local significance. Next to the building stands a preserved entrance to the market square, passing through the fortification wall. Near the parish church, the mausoleums of the Garzarolli and Dejak families commemorate prominent families from Senožeče's past.

The Djestence forest trail is a 2.8-kilometre circular route east of Senožeče. A walk along this forest trail takes approximately two hours. Along the way, visitors learn about the diversity of landscape ecosystems, the role of the forest in the environment, and the connection between the forest, wildlife and people.

Another route leads from Senožeče to the summit of Vremščica and takes about one hour and 30 minutes. It crosses meadows rich in mountain flowers and offering beautiful views.

A 59-kilometre cycling route leads via Škoflje, Famlje, Gabrk and Senožeče, as well as other places, back to Divača. The route is suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. Its course connects several named places and makes Senožeče one section of a longer circular tour that returns to Divača.

Right next to the museum, a café and a pastry shop offer Tortica Mitnica. This dessert was created especially for the museum and complements a visit to the historic customs house with a local speciality directly connected to the place.
