Četena Ravan can be explored through concrete evidence of its history and several marked trails. The branch church of St. Briccius is dedicated to Saint Briccius and is considered a cultural monument of local importance. Its construction history encompasses the first quarter of the 16th century, the 18th century, the year 1798 and the last quarter of the 19th century. The place is also associated with the Slavic scholar Gregor Krek, who was born in Četena Ravan on 8 March 1840. In the Middle Ages, four farms and a one-third share of a farm were established here; all were subordinate to the loško gospostvo.

Culture and history

St. Briccius Church is also connected with the trails through Četena Ravan. A marked thematic trail leads from the village past the church in the direction of Grebljica. The sacred building and the history of the village therefore do not appear separately from the trail routes, but within the same spatial context. The church’s various construction phases range from the first quarter of the 16th century through the 18th century and the year 1798 to the last quarter of the 19th century.

Hiking and trails

A municipal hiking route connects Poljane nad Škofjo Loko with Črni Kal, passes through Četena Ravan and runs over Stari vrh. The Pot Med gorami trail starts in Grebljica on Stari vrh, descends towards Četena Ravan and turns off above St. Briccius Church. Every year, a guided hike on the Pot Med gorami takes place on the first Sunday in August at 8 a.m.

The Valentinova pot is also connected with Četena Ravan and the church. Every year on 31 October, a guided hike takes place along this trail. The Valentinova pot descends towards Četena Ravan to St. Briccius Church, where there is a newly restored altar. In the immediate vicinity, the trail from Četena Ravan to the Stari vrh family adventure park also runs.

There is another connection from Javorje: the hike to St. Briccius Church passes through Četena Ravan and follows a short, steep footpath to the church. The different trail descriptions thus mention both longer connections through the surrounding area and the short, steep approach along this hike.

Cycling

Četena Ravan also lies along the published Loška kolesarska pot route between Zapreval and Murave. The Loška kolesarska pot consists of well-marked cycling routes with a total length of 390 kilometres and is divided into 13 stages. In addition, the Gabrška gora mountain-bike route descends to the hamlet of Četena Ravan.
