Stranice: Cultural History, Ponds and Trails

The Museum 100 frankolovskih žrtev is located in Graben near Stranice. Directly opposite are two graves of 100 Slovenian victims who were hanged in retaliation by the National Socialists toward the end of the Second World War. The exhibition “Skrivnosti zaklada s Stranic” presents finds from the Bronze and Iron Ages; specialist reconstructions of tools, weapons and jewellery were created for this part of the exhibition. In autumn 2022, metal detectorists discovered a large number of bronze objects on a slope near Stranice, close to Zreče. Remarkable fossils and minerals have been found in the Stranice quarry.

An ancient cemetery is located on the cemetery grounds surrounding St. Lawrence Church in Stranice. Several ancient spolia are incorporated into St. Lawrence Church, the presbytery and the cemetery wall. The eastern part of the nave, the chancel and the bell tower of the original Late Gothic church have been preserved. The Roman necropolis of Stranice is designated as an archaeological monument in the village area around the cemetery and church. St. Lawrence Church in Stranice is designated as a cultural monument in the Municipality of Zreče. The farmstead is a secular architectural monument and a monument of local importance. This year, too, the Društvo godbenikov Zreče brass band association wakes the residents of all local communities in the Municipality of Zreče with a May Day wake-up call.

The catering establishment at the Cankarjevi ribniki ponds in Stranice is permanently closed. Visitors can fish there, walk along the fish farm and enjoy the unspoilt nature. Between the ponds and Čretvež, a preserved section of a Roman road is available for walking. On Mala Gora, next to the fire station, there is a popular launch site for paragliders.

Numerous forest paths lead from Stranice to the surrounding hills and mountains. The surrounding hills offer views of the Pohorje. The local roads around Stranice are suitable for cyclists and day-trippers. A described cycling route from Zreče to Žička Kartuzija passes through Stranice.
