Vranduk: Medieval History and Hotels in Bosnia

Vranduk is located on the left bank of the Bosna River, next to the remains of a medieval fortress. The town combines a riverside setting with a historic core whose origins probably date back to the end of the 14th century. The old town of Vranduk was built along a strategically important route.

History

Vranduk was initially a banate town and subsequently a royal town. During this period, Bosnian kings received delegations here, signed treaties and issued charters. The history of the town is therefore closely linked to the political and diplomatic developments of medieval Bosnia, which have their visible setting in the old town and at the fortress.

Culture

A traditional Bosnian house in Vranduk houses an ethnological exhibition about crafts, embroidery and traditional costumes. The house is also suitable for nature education programs, summer workshops and art colonies. The Sultan Fatih Mosque, built after the Ottoman conquest of Vranduk in 1463, stands in the immediate vicinity of the fortress. The Careva džamija in Vranduk is a national cultural monument.

Nature

In the area around Vranduk, you can hike on nearby hills and to viewpoints. Several watermills that are still active and more than 200 years old are located on the Vrandučka Rijeka. The local watermills can be visited by arrangement. During such a visit, you can observe the process of grinding grain and producing flour.

Culture

Vranduk Fortress has been prepared for tourist visits. The Great Tower houses a small museum collection with objects found during archaeological excavations. A medieval trading settlement in the castle courtyard illustrates medieval trade. As part of an IPA-REG project, interactive three-dimensional exhibitions were installed in the fortress and a virtual museum guide was created for the museum presentations.

Cuisine

In the village of Vranduk, you can enjoy Potkriž. The dish is prepared according to a medieval recipe using layers of homemade dough and meat.

For an overnight stay in Vranduk, you can compare hotel offers according to your own criteria. The included services, the individual price components and the applicable booking and cancellation conditions are equally important. When you consider several offers, this information remains separate and traceable. Location, scope of services, occupancy and costs may differ from one listing to another. Therefore, base your decision on the details of the specific offer. On the respective offer page, you can also check which accommodation type is listed, how many people the occupancy applies to and which services are actually included.
