Koznitsa was formerly known as Karamandzha.

In the wider regional surroundings of Nessebar, the ancient city of Nessebar lies on a rocky peninsula on the Black Sea. Also in the wider regional surroundings of Nessebar, the Stara Mitropolia Basilica and the fortress in Nessebar date from the Middle Ages. Nessebar’s wooden houses from the 19th century are typical of Black Sea architecture from this period.

Koznitsa once had around 70 houses and approximately 500 inhabitants. Historically, the inhabitants cultivated large cotton fields. Livestock farming was a historical source of income in Koznitsa.

Karamandzha Kale is described as a Late Antique fortress, approximately 0.84 km east of the center of Koznitsa. It has an irregular hexagonal layout, seven towers, and two entrances, and is part of a Late Antique barrier extending from Obzor.

Nature

The protected Emine bird area associated with Koznitsa was designated to preserve the habitats of listed bird species and restore habitats whose conservation status needs to be improved.

The Dyulinski Pass is the most important road connection for Koznitsa and Panitsovo.

Work on Road III-906 through the Dyulinski Pass had been temporarily suspended until significant changes could be made to the technical project. The work on III-906 was expected to become operational in mid-2027.
