Culture and History
Český Šternberk Castle was founded around 1241 by Zdeslav of Divišov and remains in the possession of the founding family to this day. A guided tour of the castle includes 15 richly furnished rooms on the second upper floor. The castle also houses a unique collection of 545 prints from the period of the Thirty Years’ War. The southern outlying bastion of Český Šternberk Castle, known as Hladomorna, now serves as a viewpoint.
Activities
The approximately 30 km-long Cycle Route 3/C passes through Český Šternberk. The Posázavská Cycle Route No. 19 also runs through the town; it leads mainly along convenient paths and roads in Classes II and III. An excursion on foot or by bicycle can be undertaken as a half-day tour.
Nature
The Český Šternberk climbing sector lies on the right bank of the Sázava, south of the municipality of Malovidy. The Český Šternberk climbing area is a comparatively young area with new routes secured with bolts or rivets.
Stříbrná stěna is the highest wall in the climbing area visible from the railway station and offers beautiful, long climbing routes; however, the lower sections are quite brittle.
Getting There
The climbing area is most easily reached from Český Šternberk railway station on foot, following the railway tracks downstream in the direction of Rataje nad Sázavou. Český Šternberk station is about a ten-minute walk from the castle courtyard.
