Chlístovice: Hotels and Accommodation

The ruins of Sion Castle consist of a two-part complex; the outer bailey was fortified by massive ditches and ramparts. One of the most significant parts of Sion is an approximately 3 m-high artillery bastion, considered the oldest known artillery bastion in Europe. Sion became Roháč’s residence and the administrative centre of an estate that included Chlístovice, Chroustkov, Všesoky, Miletice and Újezd.

The surviving Church of St Andrew probably has a Late Gothic core. Together with its cemetery, it stands alone on a hill above the Vrchlice stream on the outskirts of Chlístovice. The church contains a historic bell from 1509 by the Kutná Hora bell founder Ondřej Ptáček, as well as a new bell cast in 2023 in memory of Josef Strnad, who came from Chlístovice and was executed by the Nazis in 1943.

The Church of St Andrew is permanently inaccessible for individual visits. Access was provided for regular Masses and cultural events; tours for groups and individual visitors were possible by prior arrangement. To arrange a visit, please contact the information centre at St Barbara’s Church.
