Choťovice: Hotels and accommodations

Choťovice combines natural landscapes, cultural history, and specific local references with a range of named destinations.

Natural landscape

Since 2004, the municipality of Choťovice has been part of the Natura 2000 Žehuňský rybník – Obora Kněžičky Special Protection Area for birds. The area protects, among others, the Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus) and the Spotted Crake (Porzana porzana), as well as their habitats. It is significant as a breeding area for 131 bird species and as a migration area for waterfowl and birds of prey.

The Žehuňský rybník National Nature Monument includes the cadastral area of Choťovice. It protects reed beds, wet to mesic meadows, calcareous fens, as well as rare and endangered animal species, particularly birds, and plants. Žehuňský rybník was probably established in 1492 by King Vladislaus II of Bohemia and also serves a recreational function.

The natural landscape also includes the Natura 2000 Dománovický les site. It protects unique forest communities, as well as populations of the lady's-slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus) and the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus). It is also home to the only known site of the scarce copper butterfly (Euphydryas maturna) in the Czech Republic.

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, formerly also referred to as the Church of the Mother of God, is first documented in 1357. On 24 June 2006, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic officially declared it a cultural monument.
