Děkov is located in the landscape of the Džbán Nature Park. The village combines a varied landscape of fields, meadows, hop gardens and forests with a multifaceted architectural and settlement history.
Landscape
The landscape around Děkov is characterised by a mosaic structure of fields, meadows, hop gardens and forests. The Zlatý potok stream rises in the village area. Děkov itself is a traditional hop-growing community.
Děkovská stráň is a registered significant landscape feature with thermophilous grassland communities on steep slopes and around rock outcrops.
Culture and History
The earliest references to the village of Děkov date from 1325. An important historic building is the Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. The early Baroque church, dating from 1664, was built on the site of an older sanctuary that had already been mentioned in 1361. It was rebuilt in 1729; in 1868, it was extended, probably by lengthening the western part of the nave with a choir loft.
Other architectural monuments include Kaplička pod lipami, a late Baroque wayside chapel with rich architectural detailing and a square floor plan. It is accompanied by four newly planted lime trees. House No. 23 is a longitudinally oriented building with a half-timbered upper floor.
Village Structure
Děkov’s current built-up structure is a compact rural roadside settlement. Original farmsteads are situated along the main road; a broader area extends around the village square.
Getting Around
Děkov has no rail connection. Cycle Route 8167 includes the Vlkov–Děkov section and forms part of the 42.9 km Klečetné–Třeboc route.
