Dobšice brings Celtic history to life at several specific sites and combines it with nature by the water. The Museum of the Celts presents a permanent exhibition about the Celts who lived in the Dobšice area in the 4th to 3rd centuries BC. A children’s playground designed in the style of a Celtic oppidum is directly adjacent to the museum. Its play features are linked to information about the lives of the Celts.

Culture and history

Dobšice is also home to a life-size Celtic semi-sunken dwelling measuring 3 × 5 metres, which can only be visited with a guide. A Celtic burial ground discovered east of the municipality in 1899 comprised 27 graves dating from the 4th to 3rd centuries BC.

The village also features two monuments from different periods. The Boží muka monument was erected in 1867. It consists of two statues of Saints Peter and Paul and a cross with Christ, symbolising the Roman Catholic Church. The monument to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars was ceremonially unveiled on 27 June 1948.

Nature

The Cidlina has several oxbow lakes in Dobšice. They are used for sport fishing and provide a habitat for numerous protected animals and plants. Dobšice is also a gateway to the protected Natura 2000 site Žehuňský rybník.

A rest stop for cycle tourists provides information boards about the nearby natural attractions Žehuňský rybník and Oškobrh Hill.

Water-based experiences

The Dobrodružná stezka malého Dobše adventure trail comprises twelve stations with information boards as well as tasks for children and adults. The trail’s features include a rope swing over the water, log balancing elements and nature puzzles to solve.
