Městec Králové: Hotels and Accommodation

Městec Králové originated around the 13th century as a fortified town on the Silesian road from Hradec Králové to Prague. Today, historic urban features, a late Baroque church, and a flat, in places slightly hilly landscape with oak forest complexes come together here.

History and Townscape

According to local legend, Přemysl Otakar II was born in Městec Králové. After his coronation as king, he elevated Městec Králové to the status of a town, granted it numerous privileges of the royal chamber, and awarded it a coat of arms featuring a lion.

The Městec Králové town hall stands in the second part of the square. It was built after a major town fire at the end of the 18th century and has a square floor plan with a courtyard wing in the middle.

Church and Culture

The Church of St. Margaret was rebuilt as a late Baroque church after the town fire of 1792, between 1792 and 1794. It is a single-nave rectangular building with a semicircular-ended presbytery and a prismatic tower on the south side. Mass is regularly celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays in the parish Church of St. Margaret.

The Cultural and Creative Centre of Městec Králové houses the town library, an information centre, and a museum exhibition hall. The Městec Králové Museum is open during the library’s opening hours.

Landscape

Městec Králové lies in a flat, in places slightly hilly landscape. The town is bordered mainly by oak forest complexes to the south and east. There are protected trees in the vicinity of Městec Králové, estimated to be more than 100 years old.

Městec Králové railway station is located on Line 028 between Chlumec nad Cidlinou and Křinec and is integrated into the integrated transport system.
